As a North Wales Chiropractor I often find Wallet Sciatica in patients from Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. Have you ever considered your lower back pain or sciatica nerve damage may be caused by your habit of putting your wallet in your back pocket? Well today’s article looks at another cause of lower back pain and leg pain by wallet neuropathy or hip pocket syndrome.

Wallet sciatica is also sometimes referred to as hip-pocket syndrome, wallet neuritis, wallet neuropathy, fat wallet syndrome or credit carditis. The problem is really a lower back pain condition called piriformis syndrome. I know a few male patients who have somehow learnt the habit of just carrying their wallets in their back pockets. And yes some of these wallets are so fat I wonder how much they could weigh. People keep all sorts in their wallets and purses such as photos, old coins etc. However carrying your wallet in your back pocket is not good for the health of your lower back and spinal alignment.

Who would have thought that your credit status could be a pain in the bum, literally? So maybe it is time to consider really as Capital One credit cards say, “What’s in your Wallet” and is it good for your spinal health? Perhaps consider using a money clip instead of a wallet. If you think you suffer this problem of Wallet Sciatica or Hip Pocket Syndrome try to put the wallet somewhere else.  If the problem persists and you live in Conwy, Gwynedd or Anglesey perhaps attend one of our information packed spine saving Spinal Health Care and Injury Prevention classes at The North Wales Spine Clinic and find out what you can do about your low back pain.
